The A170 from Helmsley links to Scarborough and the Yorkshire Coast.York is about 24 miles to the south and the A1(M) is about 22 miles to the west. Direct trains to London run regularly from Thirsk (14 miles) and York, some making the journey in under two hours.Helmsley has a primary school, and Ryedale secondary school is just under three miles to the east of the town.
