Introduction

Sherwood Cottage is as quintessentially Norfolk as you can get, surrounded by stunning field views and a private garden which extends to around a third of an acre. It s believed to date back to the 18th century, possibly even earlier, and was originally a farmhouse on a much larger estate. Later it was converted into two separate cottages, which the current owners have reinstated and improved upon to create one large and very comfortable family home.

Inside

The house has preserved much of its rustic, farmhouse-style aesthetic and features lots of exposed brick and beams, wood and tiled floors and has large windows which let in lots of natural light. The main reception rooms feel airy and bright and have an easy flow to them which makes them ideal for entertaining and hosting. The kitchen is charming yet practical, there s a good-sized study on the ground floor and the addition of a garden room off the kitchen provides a lovely additional dining space.The upstairs rooms are accessed by two separate staircases either end of the house and there are five good-sized bedrooms. A smaller room, just off the landing, would be well-suited to a nursery, dressing room or library.

Sherwood Cottage sits prettily in its plot which extends to around a third of an acre and is surrounded by fields.It is constructed of local Norfolk flint with a farm-style track leading up to it, as well as a shingle parking area and extensive gardens at the rear. Step inside Sherwood Cottage and you know, immediately, that it s been such a well-loved home. It s a home to be shared across the generations and I can easily imagine children being raised here, growing up, and then bringing their own children to visit. That chocolate-box Norfolk flint out the front fits in perfectly with its idyllic surroundings and inside it is cosy yet sociable, with farmhouse-style proportions. Everything about it fits together so nicely and while there s now very little to suggest that it was ever two properties, you certainly benefit from the scale. I love how the owners have created such a welcoming and inviting home, both inside and out. The outdoor kitchen is such a pleasant surprise and I love the circular outbuilding, too - it really adds to its charm.
