Amongst the laid hedges there is an abundance of wildlife and this productive field also has cherry trees, a crab apple, red currents, white currents, hazels and a sweet chestnut tree. Mahonia and berberis have also been planted to provide berries for both human & wildlife consumption, while corkscrew, common osier, purple and goat willows offer material for traditional hobbies and crafts. The staggered laying of hedges provides not only important traditional habitat for wildlife but also ample kindling and pea sticks. The soil is also suitable for hardy vegetables and Brssicas have been grown successfully here.
