Woodlands is a rural community within the civil parish of Netley Marsh, falling within the New Forest National Park, 8.3 miles West of Southampton city centre (about 21 minutes car journey time) and 4.8 miles North east of Lyndhurst (about 11 minutes car journey time), and also only about 1.6 miles (less than 10 minutes car journey time) from a mainline railway station at Ashurst (frequent services to London Waterloo in under 2 hours). The immediate area popular with walkers and horse riders, all of whom are serviced by numerous pubs and country style eateries within the general area. Adjoining communities include Bartley and Cadnam, the former with a general stores and post office, whilst the latter offers a mini Waitrose located within the Dobeys garden centre.
