The owners of The Mount have painted a lovely picture of why they bought this unique arts and crafts home and it goes as follows...the Mount is special and we love the nature element, walking outside the gate and being able to walk for hours in any direction in the ancient woodland that surrounds us.

We also love the many independent, local suppliers such as the Forest bakehouse and cafe, Severn & Wye Smokery and the award-winning Red Hart pub in Blaisdon is a mile walk away through the forest or just a five minute drive. Perfect!

The house is thought to have been rebuilt in the later nineteenth century as a summer house for a wealthy Gloucester solicitor. It is described by the author of the Victoria Country History as an "ornamental cottage" and by others as being in the Arts & Crafts style.

Set on an elevated plot, with parking for four cars, this really is a unique and charming Grade II listed country cottage that is welcoming and beautifully laid out, ready to move into and call home. The front door is charming and beautifully decorated with wrought iron.

The kitchen/family room is a joy with lots of natural light flooding in, with floor to ceiling glass doors and glass lantern lights and I can imagine where one would spend a great deal of time. It has been thoughtfully and meticulously planned to enjoy as much light as feasibly possible.

There is lush vegetation at every twist and turn to enjoy, the garden being a real passion. The sitting room is just across from the kitchen and has a wonderful cosy feel with an open stone fireplace. The leaded windows are a real feature in every room and give an old school feel to this charming home. Further rooms downstairs include the snug area, shower room, utility and boiler room.

LOCATION

Longhope is a village in west Gloucesterhsire, situated within the Forest of Dean, England and occupies the most easterly valley in the group of hills which lie between the Severn and the Wye. It is a hilly and wooded parish lying 15 km west of Gloucester on Gloucestershire's ancient boundary with Herefordshire close to the Forest of Dean.

The local village of Longhope is located just off the A40 and the name means long, enclosed valley. It is home to Harts Barn house and 'Harts Barn Craft Centre' which is home to independent craft shops, a cafe and the Harts Barn Cookery School.

At the end of the village you will see All Saints Church which dates back to the 12th century. Opposite the church is Court Leet which was once the local court and the adjacent timbered cottage was the gaol..

There are a range of handy supermarkets including Morrisons, Lidl, Co-op, Tesco and a useful petrol station. I am reliably informed that there is a Budgen's opening shortly just two miles away from The Mount.
