Selkirk is one of the oldest Royal Burgh’s in Scotland it is reputed to have been the site of the earliest settlement within the Scottish Borders. ‘Selkirk’ means ‘Church of the Forest’ from the old English SELE (‘hall or manor’) Cirice (‘church’).
