Thorley Wash Cottage & The Cottage are situated on the southern outskirts of the market town of Bishop’s Stortford. The primary dwelling – Thorley Wash Cottage – is a Listed building possibly dating to the late 17th/early 18th century and traditionally constructed timber framed with rendered elevations but with later extensions. Adjoining the property is a detached dwelling which is incomplete called The Cottage and has parking and a useful garden.
Thorley Wash Cottage comprises a number of characterful rooms with exposed timbers which includes a sitting room which is divided by a wooden staircase, there is some open studwork. There is a well fitted kitchen/breakfast room with granite work surfaces and a breakfast area and doors out to the garden and a sitting room at the back of the property with a feature fireplace. There is also a utility cupboard with plumbing for a washing machine, cupboard for a fridge-freezer and a modern Baxi gas fired boiler.
On the southern end of the house there is a ground floor bedroom with a timbered ceiling and adjoining a large bath/shower room with oval bath, WC and wash hand basin.
On the first floor, the staircase divides to left and right. To the left is the main bedroom with an adjoining dressing room and shower room. And then on the far side of the building inter-connecting bedrooms 2 & 3.
Behind the house there is a terrace and a good size garden about 60ft x 65ft and there is a gated access which leads to the front. There is also a sizeable shed and a good area of hardstanding for parking.
The Cottage (incomplete) has been converted and comprises a kitchen/sitting room with a good range of cupboards, microwave oven and extractor and a gas fired boiler. There is ground floor shower room and then a double bedroom on the first floor. There are footings at the back of the house which would allow for a further 2 bedrooms and bathroom. The extension is incomplete but once this 2-storey extension is complete it will provide a 3 bedroom cottage with 2 reception rooms.
The garden here is about 50ft x 46ft and enclosed.
