Designed and built for the owners some 50 years ago and nestling in the midst of about three quarters of acre of grounds, this unique inter-generational property has a special charm. It is set far back from the road, surrounded by a high brick wall providing privacy and security and approached via a long, block paved driveway, flanked by wide expanses of lawn. The drive leads to the garage complex and provides plenty of off-road parking.

This detached family home has delightful external appeal with its diamond shaped leaded light windows and varied roof lines. From the hall there are double doors opening into both the snug and a delightful sitting room that includes an archway and a staircase to the first floor as well as a bay window overlooking the terrace and front garden. The snug also includes a bay window and is semi open plan with wide archways to both the very attractive conservatory and to the main lounge. The lounge has an impressive fireplace and multi-pane double doors to the dining room that, in turn, has glazed doors to the rear garden. So, when all the doors are open it provides a wonderfully spacious feeling that is ideal when you are throwing a party. There is a light and bright kitchen with attractive white units housing a variety of appliances and an adjacent utility room and cloakroom as well as a side entrance door.

Also on the ground floor is an integral but self-contained two-bedroom annex. This would be ideal for elderly relatives or adult children but could always be incorporated as part of the main house. It includes a separate front door that opens into the good-sized lounge with an archway to the fitted kitchen. There is a bathroom, a door to the utility room and a single and a double bedroom that has fitted cupboards.

Off the galleried landing on the first floor of the main house, there is a family bathroom and four double bedrooms that all have fitted wardrobes.

The attractive outbuilding includes a double garage and a two-storey workshop. However, it would seem possible to convert some or part of this building into additional accommodation if required and subject to the necessary permissions. There is also a charming sun house with French doors to a large, covered decked patio that is ideal for al fresco dining. The building is currently being used as an office and has lighting and electrics so is just the place for anyone wanting to work from home, but not be disturbed by activities in the house.

What the Owner says:

When we first saw the location it was just a field but we knew it would be an ideal position because we are surrounded by farmland and the countryside yet we are not far from the centre of Ryde. We are very close to a large Tesco and there is easy access to the mainland with the hoverport and nearby ferry. At the same time, it is very quiet and peaceful and there are wonderful places to go for walks or watch the steam trains on the Isle of Wight Steam railway. Horsey enthusiasts can ride at the aptly named Trotters Riding School and watch the annual ‘Isle of Wight Grand National and Scurry' amateur horse race while golfing aficionados can enjoy their game at the Ryde Golf Club.

We are only about two miles from the centre of the charming town of Ryde with its quirky mix of Victorian architecture, traditional seaside entertainment and hoverport for trips to the mainland. The town includes a wide selection of independent shops, a plethora of bars, cafes and restaurants and, unlike some places on the island, it is a hive of activity all year round with a variety of events from the Classic Car Show and the August Bank Holiday scooter show to a selection of concerts. There are a number of great beaches around Ryde but Appley beach is stunning with long stretches of sand bordered by the park that includes Appley Tower and a playground for young children.
