Downton On The Rock is a small village 7.4 miles west of historic Ludlow on the Shropshire/Herefordshire borders in the Welsh Marches. The first written record of a settlement here is found in the Domesday book, 1087. The Downton Estate has passed through various ownership over the years and in the latter part of the twentieth century the Castle and Estate were sold separately and many properties were sold to existing tenants or newcomers to the area. The Downton Estate remains a predominantly agricultural community surrounded by beautiful unspoilt countryside and properties are rarely available.
