Architecture & Interior
Wapping's preserved warehouse conversions are an architectural glimpse at London’s rich, heavy industrial history which have been repurposed as some of the capital’s most revered riverside retreats.
Sitting at the ground and first floor level of Grade II listed Great Jubilee Wharf, a former Victorian timber warehouse, this outstanding conversion epitomises authentic industrial aesthetic that’s enjoyed a recent feature in, Marie Claire Maison magazine.
The reinstated factory feel extends to every corner of the two-level home following a yearlong sympathetic restoration overseen by its interior designer owner.
Much of the ground floor areas 1400 sq. ft is unashamedly aimed at lively, convivial living through a series of zoned reception areas through the open plan space that culminates in Crittall style, glass enclosed office plus comfortable guest accommodation.
Stout brick pillars and exposed, original steel columns sit in and around the reception area flanked by distressed, original brick work and chunky timber beams overhead. Solid planks of warm hued wood cover the entire floor authenticating the historic factory feel.
Perhaps one of the highlight features of this floor is the bespoke kitchen, a real chef’s paradise, occupying one side of the room. Industrial styling sits front and centre with granite countertops sitting above polished metal cabinetry that houses a high-end collection of culinary conveniences. Induction hob, extra wide oven & wine cooler complete an arsenal of features in the primary cook station which spills out into the living area across a wide breakfast bar with utilitarian pendant lighting hanging above.
A secondary utility room plays a role in keeping the larger, practical accessories like the pantry and a pair of dishwashers from view but not at the expense of styling, it’s every bit as detailed as the main kitchen with paired up cabinetry and countertops.
Installed towards the end of the room, just behind the formal living area, an impressive home office complemented with warehouse styling sits behind a Crittall style internal glazed wall providing exceptional river views. The sharp lines of this room contrast with the serenity of the adjoining guest which completes the interior line up.
When the mood takes you, relax on the cantilevered balcony surveying the River Thames and take in Canary Wharfs dramatic skyline. Whether it’s high or low tide, to sit and enjoy the soothing sound of the water below is one of life’s simple pleasures.
From the double height entrance hall, open tread back lit stairs carry you up a floor. A galleried landing is the starting point that heads through towards two luxurious double bedrooms. Both are spacious with copious amounts of wardrobe storage. The principle suite enjoys an entire dressing area that leads to a beautifully appointed shower en-suit.
Accessed from the portered communal entrance, a set of stairs descend to the underground carpark with its allocated space, plus there’s the benefit of two large secure residents bike storage rooms.
