Location
The picturesque hamlet of Calenick has a long history of tin smelting and associated industries. The earliest recorded tin smelting in Cornwall was at Newham in 1703. Those works were transferred to Calenick in 1711 in the grounds of Calenick House. The Ropewalk terrace was associated with the tin smelting development, with the left end-terrace being the counting house. Calenick can be found just south of Truro roughly a mile from the city limits. Newham Trail is the disused railway line that runs across the Calenick valley on the edge of Truro. This popular trail is well used by runners, dog-walkers, walkers and cycling commuters. Accessible year-round, this is a peaceful spot with sweeping valley views, overhanging trees and which finishes up with magnificent views of Truro River.
